About Us

Johnnie Kuest was the original inventor, founder of the Magic Mill. Mrs Kuest did not like the grinders on the market. She found them to be noisy, messy and inefeciant, so they ended up designing and building their own, and they sold them for many years.Mr Kuest decided to retire early, and in 1972 he sold the business. After many peoples requests he went back into reproduction, in 1976 but they changed the name to Golden Grain Grinder, and upgraded the product. these same grinders are still being made in the same location in Filer Idaho.

Metal vs Stone Flour Mills

Stone grinders are the oldest known method of grinding flour, a method in which one stone turns against a stationary stone. Larger mills around the country still use this method. Stones in such facilities are often two to three feet across, and weigh hundreds of pounds. While they were once turned by windmills or water wheels, they are now turned by electric motors.

The ancient method of milling wheat to flour with stones still remains the best. Our competitors use metal grinding methods that can leave pieces of metal in your flour and always get it too hot during grinding process.
